Observing

To understand the child’s most frequently employed survival strategy, check all the behaviours or characteristics that you have observed on more than a few occasions.  You can do so right here. You can also download a file to print and complete or you can download and then complete the checklist directly on your laptop or desktop.

Fight
Acting hot and bothered.
Easily angered.
Tries to control others.
Blames others frequently.
Loud, noisy.
Pushes away friends.
Makes frequent demands.
Inflexible thinking.
Difficulty concentrating.
Difficulty finishing tasks.
Has trouble fitting in.
Less mature than peers.
Disruptive in groups.
Disrespectful to others.
Confrontational.
Lies frequently.
Flight
Frequently runs away.
Keeps super busy.
Struggles with free time.
Needs to be first.
Bumps into people.
Avoids tasks or activities.
Uses baby talk or silly voices.
Fidgets when sitting still.
Tends to hide.
Puts head down.
Difficulty following rules.
Acts aggressively.
Constantly moving.
Avoids getting close to people.
Cries frequently.
Changes topics frequently.
Freeze
Disinterested in surroundings.
Easily confused.
Changes the subject abruptly.
Has difficulty getting through tasks.
Not listening to others.
Stares into space.
Clumsy.
Scans the environment often.
Forgetful.
Slow moving.
Daydreams frequently.
Delayed reactions.
Reluctant to try new things.
Not interested in exploring environment.
Loses track of time.
Does not answer when called by name.
Submit
Socially withdrawn.
Compliant.
Often silent.
Provides yes or no answers only.
Shows difficulty with thinking.
Gives up on tasks easily.
Shows a neutral facial expression.
Exhibits a low mood.
Walks with head down.
Agrees easily.
Described as a loner.
Looks anxious or troubled.
Easily bullied.
Uncomfortable in groups.
Uncomfortable with attention.
Passive responses.
Fawn
Can’t handle conflict.
People pleasing.
Too agreeable.
Can’t name feelings.
Avoids conflict.
Denies feelings.
No clear identity.
No strong beliefs.
Shifting values.
Sudden outbursts.
Bouts of sadness.
‘’Yes’’ person.
Flatters others.
Excessive giving.
Self-sacrificing.
Fits of anger.
